A Summer Guide for Parents

1. Water and Outdoor Safety

Constant supervision: Never leave a child unattended, even for a second, while they are playing near a swimming pool, well, river, or even a small container filled with water.

Proper footwear: When playing outdoors, make sure your child wears well-fitting, closed-toe shoes. This will protect them from broken glass, sharp branches, and insects hidden in the grass.

2. Sun Protection

Critical hours: Avoid staying outdoors during the hours when the sun is most intense — from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Skin care: Before going outside, always apply a high-protection sunscreen specially designed for children, with SPF 30–50.

Appropriate clothing: Choose light-coloured, lightweight, and breathable clothing, and always make sure your child wears a hat.

3. Hydration and Food Hygiene

Fluid intake: Young children lose fluids very quickly. Offer them clean drinking water frequently, even if they do not ask for it.

Food safety: Bacteria multiply extremely quickly during the summer. Wash fruit and vegetables thoroughly and place perishable products in the refrigerator immediately.

4. Insects, Plants, and Animals

Tick checks: After spending time in nature or grassy areas, carefully inspect your child’s skin at the end of each day to make sure there are no ticks.

Protection from bites: Use insect repellents specifically intended for children.

Wildlife safety rules: Explain to children that they should not touch unfamiliar flowers or mushrooms, approach bee or wasp nests, or try to pet unfamiliar animals.

5. Safe Storage of Items

Dangerous objects: Always store medicines, household chemicals, and sharp objects in high, locked places that are inaccessible to children.

What to Include in a First-Aid Kit for a Summer House or Country Trip

Before leaving the city, make sure you have the following items:

  • Antiseptic solutions for treating wounds

  • Sterile gauze pads, bandages, and adhesive plasters in different sizes

  • A thermometer

  • Fever-reducing and pain-relieving medicines suitable for children

  • Oral rehydration solutions to restore fluids in cases of poisoning or dehydration

  • Antihistamine medicines suitable for the child

  • Any other essential medicines recommended by your family doctor

Finally, even the safest environment cannot replace a parent’s watchful eye. Attentive adult supervision is the most important and effective way to keep children safe during the summer.

We wish all children a joyful, active, unforgettable, and safe summer holiday!
